The Australia Korea Business Council of WA today announced the election of the Hon Mr. Eric Ripper as 2nd Patron of the AKBCWA.
Mr Ripper had a long and distinguished career in the WA Parliament over 25 years as a member of the Australian Labor Party, including time as Deputy Premier; Treasurer; Minister for Energy; and Minister for State Development, as well as Leader of the Opposition.
Mr. Ripper has strong links to Korea and during his time as Minister for State Development set up the WA government’s office in Seoul which has been an integral part in building the WA – Korea relationship. These links to Korea strengthened as Minister for Energy as Mr Ripper negotiated on large LNG and iron ore projects.
Mr. Ripper steps into the role after the departure of our inaugural Patron former WA premier Richard Court, who has embarked on a new posting as ambassador to Japan. The AKBCWA would like to thank Mr. Court for his support and influence in helping set up and promote our council.
AKBCWA Chairman Young Yu stated “On behalf of the AKBCWA Board and our members we would firstly like to thank former premier Richard Court for the invaluable contribution he has made as patron of our council and wish him all the best in Japan. We are very grateful to have Eric Ripper on board, Eric has a long relationship with Korea and we are honoured to have him as our new patron. His insights and experience will help our council grow and achieve greater success moving forward”
The AKBCWA will be officially welcoming Mr Ripper with a member’s event to be held in March.
